Wacky Holidays are a great way to have fun each month on social media or even at home with the family and community! I’m going to help get you started with some unique ideas you can do throughout the month of May.
With COVID-19 forcing us all to stay home, I’ve decided to change it up a bit. Instead of outlining in-home parties, I have put together a few ways to party online, as well as some family activities!
May is Foster Care month. As a way of giving back to the community you could host a fundraiser for a local foster family, or adopt a family of your own to donate goods or money to.
Host a virtual fundraiser for your local first responders. Many communities have volunteer fire departments which many do not know are the first to respond to medical calls. These brave men and women are the first to come in contact with anyone who may be sick. These organizations are funded by grants, private donations, and fundraisers. Show your appreciation by hosting a private fundraiser on their behalf.
Unique Virtual Social Ideas
Who doesn’t love to share their favorite recipes? With the weather warming up and May being National Barbecue Month now is the best time to host an online Barbecue.
So how do we do it?
Go Live (or share a recording), host your very own cooking show. You can share some of your favorite barbecue recipes, and how to prep, as well as cook & serve them.
Not sure about going live? No problem! You can always share a step by step cooking tutorial with pictures and the final recipe as well.
Be sure to get your party guests interacting by allowing them to share their favorite recipes, tips and tricks, etc. You never know, you may just find something new to try.
Don’t have a favorite recipe? No problem, try something new and check these pins out for some inspiration!
You can even tie in National Hamburger and Salad month with highlighting your favorites of each.
We all have a favorite gadget we use in the kitchen, and here’s a great time to show them off (even if you don’t sell them yourself, why not help another small business).
For instance, one of my favorite gadgets for Hamburgers is a Patty Press, my in-laws got me one for Christmas a few years ago and I honestly wouldn’t know what to do without it now. It’s so easy to use and my burgers no longer fall apart on the grill.
With May being National Photograph month it’s time to dust off your camera and head out and start snapping some pictures. If you don’t have a camera your phone will do the trick.
If your area is still in lock down due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this may be a great time to photograph some of those areas which normally are very populated.
You can host a daily photo contest with your followers, friends, and family. Your daily challenges could include ideas such as:
- something blue
- their pets
- children being silly, working hard, etc
- their garden
- something that looks like the letter “S”
- Get creative with this!
The best part about this kind of activity is that no one will have the same shots and that’s what makes this type of get together super unique.
This is an area that my family and I have been having a lot of fun with. Each day we look at the Calendar, pick one listed to celebrate and just roll with it! Each day of the month has something to celebrate so finding unique ways to bring them into your business or home is a great way to spark interaction online, or at home with your family.
May 1st – Loyalty Day – if you’re a small business owner today would be a great day to give back and say thank you to your loyal customers!
May 2nd – Brothers & Sisters Day – If you’ve been home with your young children hopefully they’ve become each other’s new best friend during this quarantine (or arch enemies). Have them write each other a letter listing 3-5 things they love about one another.
May 3rd – Garden Meditation Day – This one may give your neighbors something to talk about, but hey why not! Head on out to your flower garden and have some peaceful meditation, and just let your mind go blank and carefree. I think we all could benefit from a little garden mediation today.
May 4th – Star Wars Day – If I didn’t highlight this day I’m pretty sure my son would disown me. Have a Star Wars marathon or only speak Yoda today. You could even have a friendly light saber duel by painting sticks, old wrapping paper tubes, or even pool noodles.
May 5th – National Teachers Day – This is a day to be sure to thank your children’s teacher for everything they do. I can’t speak for all teachers, but I know my children’s have been available for special one-on-one tutoring sessions as well as email, phone calls, you name it! With many schools being shut down for the remainder of the school year this would be a great time to reach out and have your child send your teacher a special thank you or even a little gift.
